Antique AD MOUGIN French Figural Art Novo Garniture Clock Set Artist Signed Francois Moreau
19TH Century

Antique late 19th century French art novo brownish red burgundy colored white speckled marble and spelter 3 piece clock garniture set. Statue created by famous French artist Francois Moreau titled “La Cruche Cassee” “The Broken Pitcher” based on Jean-Baptiste Greuze 1785 French painting titled “La Cruche Cassee” located in the Louvre museum. Movement stamped “A.D. MOUGIN DEUX MEDAILLES” in a circle, and incised with serial number 3185. A.D. Mougin was a well known listed French clock maker who was located at Rue de Turenne 75 Paris in 1870.

The clock movement is an 8 day time and strike that chimes on a bell every half and full hour, keeping perfect time. I just paid $110 and had the clock movement cleaned, oiled and adjusted by a professional clock-smith, so you will have maintenance free enjoyment. The clock will need to be leveled and adjusted after shipping. The old French pendulum is a replacement noting that its numbers on the bob do not match the movements numbers. Key is a replacement. The impressive clock stands about 24 ½" tall, are 7" deep and 12" wide. The garnitures stand about 14” tall, are 4” deep and 6 ½” wide.

The clock set is in very good condition for its age, and draws your attention when you walk into the room. The spelter is free of any cracks, dings or repairs; having age related oxidized areas. The marble clock case has a ¼” chip on the underside of top front left corner that is not noticeable unless you look for it. The top of marble that statue stands on has a factory flawed tight diagonal hairline crack that was cemented in place when case was made, again not noticeable, mentioned for accuracy. The clock dial is in excellent condition being free of any chips, cracks or hairlines. Most dials are chipped by the winding arbors and have lots of hairline cracks. One garniture has two repaired corners on top, one in the front the other in the back. The repaired front corner has a 1/3” chip on the underside, and on the back of same garniture the speckled white spot in the marble has fallen out, which does not show from the front. The other garniture has a repaired corner on the top in front. Because the clock set is very busy, you do not notice the repairs or age related imperfections.
